“SMT”, as we refer to it (hey, we can’t be formal all the time) is a true fattoria, or agricultural estate, covering almost three thousand acres of land, just under 10% being under vine. This picturesque estate contains olive groves, forest, and arable land for breeding free range Cinta Senese (pigs).
The Estate’s contiguous vineyard holdings comprise both Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Fiorentini appellated wines. As you’d expect, Sangiovese is king here, though with the other classic red and white varietals too. The winery has been Certified Organic since 1993 and solar powered since 2007, with the addition of a biomass plant in 2011.They also hold the Equalitas certification, showing their commitment to environmental, social, and economic responsibility across their entire supply chain.
Stylistically, SMT’s wines “like Chianti used to be made”: generous, silky, fruit forward and eminently pleasing to drink.
