Eradus
Marlborough, New Zealand
We met Michiel through our mate Simon of Wine Dogs Imports, New Zealand specialist importers here in the US. We’re proud to say they’ve become Little Peacock’s first Kiwi winery!
History: Dutch immigrants Har and Sophie nestled on a unique sliver of land, nestled between a higher terrace and the glacial river below, with its guarding boundary of gnarled old macrocarpa. They wanted the unique and wild terroir of the Awatere Valley to speak through the vines of their unique property, releasing their first vintage in 2002. Today, their son Michiel and his Kiwi wife Hanna continue celebrating the unique terroir of this site.
Climatically, Eradus vineyard has its own unique mesoclimate, shaped by the line of the Alpine Fault, the course of the Awatere River, and the power of the nearby Pacific Ocean, which influences the diurnal fluctuations – warm days and cold nights – that protect the crisp acids of the wines. This is truly cool climate viticulture. And it’s reflected in the sprightly acid line of the wines – Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
